6 months

Dear Emanuel,

You turned 6 months old on November 17th! Yep, that's right - nearly 2 weeks ago. As you will come to learn, mama often runs late...and well, now is one of those times. I know you understand. So what have you been up to this past month?
  • You weigh 17 pounds, 6 ounces, which is the 41st percentile. You are 27 inches long, which is the 63rd percentile. You are still growing so fast and are such a big boy. Your cheeks are absolutely delicious.
  • You are wearing size 2 diapers, but we'll probably move up to a 3 soon. You are wearing 3-6 month clothes, and I finally packed away all of your 0-3 month stuff. I may or may not have shed a few tears in the process. And by shed a few tears, I mean your dad came to check on me because he heard the wailing sobs coming from your room.
  • I forgot to mention this last month, but you are officially a full-time belly sleeper. I have come to terms with this and actually think it's cute because you like to sleep just like I do. :)  Sometimes you sleep with your bottom up in the air, and it's just precious. (Just to clear things up, I do not sleep with my bottom in the air. Just on my belly.)
  • Moving right along. You are so gassy. You toot all of the time, especially in your sleep. Which leads me to...
  • Your newest nickname for the month is Sir-Stinks-a-Lot. And well, it's pretty self-explanatory as to why. As your daddy would say, it's simply because your "intestinal flora" is changing...but geez, Bubs...your diapers are no joke.
  • This last month, you really decided you wanted to be a thumb-sucker. And you looked so precious doing it! However, your daddy is strongly against this, so we've been working hard to keep you from doing so. He was a thumb-sucker too, ya know. But he just doesn't want you to go down that road. Something about him waking up at a middle school slumber party sucking his thumb and being scarred with embarrassment for life? I don't know, you'll have to ask him about it. :)
  • You have found your feet and love to stick both of your big toes in your mouth at the same time. You get mad when you have shoes or socks on because you can't get to your toes.
  • It appears you are learning to throw fits...arching your back, throwing your head back...it sure looks like a fit, but there's no way my sweet baby boy would do such a thing. I suppose you're just stretching, right?
  • Oh my word, you have really started playing with toys, and it just melts.my.heart. You will scoot across the floor to get to your favorite little ball, or for that matter, Grandpa's stinky boot. You just love to focus on an item and go for it. And remember last month when I said I might faint when you learned to turn the music on your frog by yourself? Well the day has come, and I still can't believe it. Sometimes we'll just be riding down the road and you'll reach up and turn the music on, maybe because you're bored or something? It seriously blows my mind that you're able to do that.

  • Your first tooth (bottom right) finally showed up on November 6th, and the bottom left one came in on the 13th.
  • You are not officially crawling yet, but you sure can cover some ground. Your crawling style is what I like to call "downward dog", as in the yoga position. You just bulldoze around and it's so funny.
  • You are so much happier when you are sitting up, so thankfully that is something you've mastered this month. You like to scoot around for a little bit, then twist to the sitting position. You are SUCH a big boy! You leave one arm down for balance when you transition like that, but I think soon you'll feel confident enough to go ahead and sit up completely from the crawling position.
  • We decided to go ahead and start you on rice cereal on November 9th. You were not a fan. Remember the back arching I mentioned earlier? Yeah, you were definitely doing a little of that while daddy was trying to feed you. We'll start some more yummy things soon, and I am certain you'll have an appetite like your mama in no time flat.
  • This month you decided you hate your iron drops. I'm not gonna lie; the smell has always made me want to vomit, so I can't say I blame you. This typically leads to a nursing strike and lots of screaming and crying. Fortunately a little gripe water after the drops usually calms you down.
  • Being outside is still one of your favorite things. I'm dreading it getting too cold for us to sit out on the veranda and enjoy the afternoon. You are such a good sport to sit in your Bumbo while I water plants or work on a craft project. You just take everything in and it's so sweet.
  • You pretty much tore into your monthly birthday gift from my friends in Waco. You look adorable in the precious onesies they got you, and the teether is your new favorite!
You truly are my little sidekick and I just love every minute of it. I think you're starting to recognize me and it is the best feeling in the world. While I can't believe 1/2 a year has already gone by, I also can't remember my life before you. I love you baby boy. XOXO.

Love,
Mommy

Thankful

Just a year ago today, we had our Gender Reveal Party before our Thanksgiving dinner and found out that the precious miracle growing in my stomach was a baby boy.
Today, we have SO, SO much to be thankful for. Of course the obvious things of family, health, home, jobs, but this year the most special addition to the list is an active & healthy sweet baby boy, and for that our hearts our filled with thanks.
Wishing you & your family a very blessed Thanksgiving!
Don't you love his precious turkey shirt from SheShe Made?!

Busy-Busy & Blogger Girls Night Out

It is such a busy time of year right now, and I have so much to blog about that I don't even know where to begin! I have Manny's 6 month post finished but need to add in pictures, so I will try to do that tomorrow. I also had an amazing weekend celebrating my 30th birthday - yikes! It was so fun though so I'll be working on a post on that. In addition, we've been doing a little "sleep training" with Manny and it is coming along wonderfully. I also have a few craft projects I've been working on that I'd love to share. So yeah, I have lots to blog about, but just no time to do it.

As I mentioned in this post, our house is in our local Parade of Homes this year. The newspaper came today to take some pictures to advertise it, so I've been working hard to get everything done since I knew they'd be coming sometime before Thanksgiving. It's a relief to have that done and so I'll be able to relax for the holidays!
Yesterday the timing worked out perfectly for me to meet up with a group of blog friends for dinner and a movie. We went to a great burger place then went and saw Morning Glory - SO cute!! We laughed so much and it was such a blast. I can't say enough how much I appreciate the friendships that blogging has given me!
Oh, and I've had a few questions about the Christmas Countdown I posted here. Just to clarify, you just download the file, then print it out, and put it in a picture frame. Then, you use a dry-erase marker to write on the actual glass the number of days left until Christmas. I hope that makes sense - sorry for any confusion!

Blog Friends & Birthday Party

We're back from a wonderful weekend in Dallas! As always the time went too fast and was filled with lots of fun stuff. We went down to go to my niece Ellie's 4th birthday party. The timing of my trip down was perfect because I had the chance to meet up with some of my super fun blogging/twitter buddies!
I've connected with Angie, Britni, Ashley, and Jenn in various ways, but I'm pretty sure it all started with Ashley, and from her I "met" the others. These girls are SO much fun & we could have laughed & talked all night until some guy stole my mini-van! Just kidding. But it was SO much fun and I am really glad it worked out for me to meet all of them!

Saturday was my niece's birthday party. It was a princess party, and the boys could come dressed as a superhero. So Manny went dressed as Super Manny...but he was the only boy who dressed up. At least he's too young to know to be embarrassed! :)

Admiring my dad :)
with my sister Rachael, the birthday girl's mom
Ellie dressed as Princess Belle for her birthday party
Super Manny playing a little Dance Dance Revolution with me and my niece Gabi
Manny with my Mom...I love this picture! :)
Playing with cousin Gabi - his favorite!
We had so much fun playing video games and driving go-karts...I totally felt like a kid again! And I may or may not have dominated the go-kart track and made a few 4 year-olds cry. Just kidding. Or not. :)

6 month pictures by Jessica Meinardus Photography

Yesterday we had E's 6 month pictures as part of the Baby's First Year Package with Jessica Meinardus Photography...and oh.my.word. You guys. I know he's my son, but seriously...did she not get some model-worthy shots of him?! He was so funny and didn't really smile much unless he was looking at Patrick or I...which was really sweet, but also a pain when you're trying to get a family picture. :) Jessica worked hard to entertain him though and as always, I'm amazed at the fabulous job she did!
Could you not just eat him up?! Love love love these. If you're in the greater Fort Smith area, you need to have her take your pictures. I treasure the pictures she's done so far and am so glad we have such great pictures of his first year! You can visit the Jessica Meinardus Photography website or her Facebook fan page for more info & beautiful images.
