Double Stroller: Take 2

Here we are again. The double stroller dilemma. I have decided I'm ready to take the plunge to get a double jogging stroller. Now to decide which one is key. I wasn't sure if I'd want one before MB was here, but now that she is, I'm seeing I would actually use it lots. The main thing I hope to use it for is walks/jogs with the kids. Now don't get me wrong - I'm not a huge runner, but it'd be nice to have something I could run with should I happen to get chased by dogs feel the inspiration. However, because these things are just a little pricey, it will be our only double stroller, so I'd like it to be "multi-functional", as much as possible. Meaning, if I wanted to take it into the mall, I wouldn't need an escort from mall security with a "wide load" sign on the front of his Segway.

After researching, asking different people, and agonzing way too much, I think I've narrowed it down to two choices:
Phil and Teds Explorer Stroller with Doubles Kit

Bob Revolution Duallie SE Stroller

There are SO many options out there but these seem to be the ones with the best reviews. So. If you have either of these, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Or if you have a different double jogger you love, I'd like to hear about it too. I do have some concerns that Manny won't ride in the bottom seat of the Phil & Ted's until Maeva is big enough to ride back there (if I'm understanding the way it works correctly.) So please share your thoughts. Or make the decision for me. I'm driving myself (and Patrick) crazy. And I promise to never post about strollers again. :)

  1. We don't have a double yet, but I LOVE our Bob! We have a smaller stroller but never use it since the Bob is so much better. I have a couple friends that have gotten the double Bob and sre really happy with it. That is probably what we will get too once the baby comes.

  2. We just took the big plunge and bought the phil & teds explorer. I got the infant adapter and for a few months at least, the baby will be up front in the carrier. The thing that sold me was once I tested out the side by sides compared to the p&t--I was head over heels in love with how smooth and how much smaller and normal stroller'ish it was. Not ONLY that--but? I cannot guarantee Eme will like a stroller for that long--hence why I like that the p&t is a single. I sold all my other strollers b/c this one will be what we need forever. A single. A double. For infants. Good for exercise. So that's how I chose. Also, Eme LOVED the back seat when we tested it in the store--so that helped sell me too. She thinks of it like a little fort back there, I think.

  3. I have zero experience, but I've heard lots of good things about the Bob, so it will probably be at the top of my list if we need one. I would say if you can test the P&T with Manny sitting in the back do that, maybe he'll love it, maybe he won't. If he hates it, probably a good reason to go the other route.

  4. We have a BOB single and it is amazing! We take it everywhere- gravel, grass, pavement, etc and it is great. A friend of mine has a BOB double and loves it- we plan on getting one when we have another baby. Good luck!

  5. I have the Baby Jogger City Mini double, which is very similar to the BOB. My kiddos are 22 months and 2 months and it is perfect for us. I've used it for several things already - exercise, aquarium, zoo, mall, etc. It's very compact, lightweight, and, most importantly, can fit through doorways! Good luck with your decision!

  6. LOVE my BOB! I have 1 year old twins and there is no way I could do any longer runs with the P&T's, they would get too made being behind and not seeing what is ahead. Love, love, love my BOB! Check Craigslist before you buy new.

  7. Get the bob. You will love it! We have that exact one and it is amazing. Totally worth every penny.

  8. Oh my gosh, I drove my hubby (and myself) crazy with the stroller research as well! We (I) finally settled on the Baby Jogger City Mini double and love it. It folds up super easy and is really lightweight for a double. I think my favorite thing about it are the sun shades...they have great coverage, even when you're walking directly into the sun. Which is good for the, ya know, 3 days a year I get out jogging. Ha! Good luck deciding :)

  9. The BOB!! I have the double and it is heaven. I don't run either. I'm a walker and it is the smoothest ride...the girls love it and I love it.

  10. We have a single Bob and love it and I've used my friend's double Bob. It is nice but it is wide and cumbersome. The City Mini and the P&T look great and much more streamlined. Good luck with this decision! Sorry I'm absolutely no help! :-)

  11. I have the double BOB and love it. I haven't taken it to the mall yet but I walk all over the place with it. It is a tad bit heavy to load and unload into the car but it folds easy and pushes and rides great. I put my newborn in there and I don't even have carseat adapter, I just put a few extra blankets around him and it works fine.

I bought a used one off craigslist so it's 5+ years old and still works great!

  12. We have a BOB and love it. Granted ours in a single....but still. They are high quality and easy to push.

    Good luck deciding!!

  13. Having just been through this myself, here is my opinion. I wanted a GOOD jogging/walking stroller. One that I could go the distance with (ha!) *if* I chose to. BUT...the GOOD jogging/walking strollers are side-by-sides. Not shopping friendly. So we bought a used, from-a-friend, Sit 'N Stand. $40. Done. I took a few of my BRU gift cards and put those toward the Bob Duallie. LOVE it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. And have used it so much more than anyone expected me to. AND, for James' swimming lessons/places he needs to not be in a stroller, I kept my Graco single so I can push Will by himself (and in his carseat). It's been the perfect solution for me!

  14. Love love love out BOB!! Tried out my friends P&T and my toddler hated the back seat. I did like that it was more normal strollerish but she wouldn't stay back there and kept saying "no see! No like!!". We take the BOB everywhere. I've only run into two doors that it didn't fit thru easily and they were old old doors not modern. It works great around town, trails and at the mall, it's a super smooth ride and I love that. My only complaint is the infant adapter with the toddler snack tray is useless once the baby can sit in the stroller. Then you have to buy a double snack tray of you want one.

All in all I love love love LOVE out BOB!!

  15. I only have one baby (almost a little boy at this point!)of but we chose the Phil&Ted explorer and I had the doubles kit come with it. Babygizmo.com did a review on it and it looked like a great option. The bob is more popular here in the states, but I really love the p&t so far- it goes anywhere and I get so many compliments on it. The company is easy to work with too, we had a wheel issue and they replaced it right away. I can't say enough about this stroller!

  17. I know everyone here is saying how much they love their BOB. I agree BUT as your only stroller NO WAY! it's massive heavy and doesn't even got thru most door ways ! Phil and ted are awesome and the front back baby jogger city mini great too but unless it's a small umbrella stroller I highly advise against side by sides

  18. Well Sarah..I I do not know BOB Phil or Ted. I really do not think these guys were around 9 years ago. But if I were MB or Manny I would want the BOB. I would not be a happy camper if I had to sit in the bottom of the stroller not being able to see. But that is just me. So I would go with BOB:)
Keep up the great work running!!!

  19. We have the double BOB and LOVE it!! Use it EVERYDAY---our most used baby item besides the crib;) I do use it to run quite a bit, be also use it to walk around town, through the park, and we even travel with it. But if you want something smaller, I do have friends that love the Baby Jogger City Mini double because it is more narrow and fits through aisles easier. We don't really use ours to shop---I usually bring a stroller and one goes in there while the other one walks (or when the little one was small, he always went in the carrier). Good luck!!

  20. I took our Bob out tonight and adore it. But, if it is going to be your only stroller I would not suggest it. It doesn't fit through doors and there is no way it would be anything other than a giant pain at the mall.

I'm not normally a fan of tandem strollers where one child is stuck in the back unable to see in front of them (which is why I love the city select - the child in the back is higher than the child in the front & can see other the front seat) but, given your options, I'd get over that fact and go with the P&T.

  21. We have a single Bob and I am currently preggo and we will be buying a double Bob and keeping the single still for outings with one baby. They are the best.

  22. I vote for the BOB. If I was a kid, I wouldn't want to spend my time in the stroller looking at black mesh and my sibling's back.

  23. Totally recommend the BOB! Love love my single and will likely get a duelie when I have another baby. They are so easy to maneuver and run with. Love it.

  24. I have the BOB double stroller for my almost 2 year old twins. I got it when they were 7 or 8 months old. I LOVE it. I went through about 5 strollers before getting the BOB and it is by far the best one I had. You would not regret getting it!

  25. Love the BOB like mostly everyone else. I wouldnt get the Phil and Teds based on how much it would stink to sit at the bottom of it. Ive heard from people that have it say it doesnt seem comfy. Our 2 kiddos fall asleep every single time they are in the BOB. Also, The city Mini isn't conducive for jogging. The wheels are small so the BOB is best for overall usage I think.

  26. Def the bob! You won't regret it. I LOVE ours

  27. I'd be worried about the child on the bottom of the Phil & Teds not being able to see. I have 14 month old twins and have the Baby Jogger City Select with the kit to turn it into a double. LOVE THIS STROLLER. It folds up super fast and easy (it fit perfect in the back of my Honda Civic with plenty of room to spare!). I also love how you can position the seats in different ways - both facing out, both facing you, both facing in to look at each other. There are also different attachments so you could attach a bassinet for Maeva if you wanted. We LOVE ours. Oh, and if you are only out with 1 kid, the seats just click in and out so you can easily just use it as a single stroller. There are also kits so you can snap your infant car seat into it as well. You can use that and the regular seat for Manny. Its incredibly versatile!

  28. I have the twinner twister duo and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! My son who is 3.5 yrs old loves to ride and has plenty of room. It fits easily through a single doorway. I like it over the bob as each child has an independent footrest. This was nice with my daughter when she 3-6 months as I could make her a little bed. I know it is available on Amazon, but I got mine on Zulity. I actually hope they put them on again, as now I would like to by a single to replace my baby jogger. I usually run on a dirt road by my house and it is awesome on the dirt road. My husband loves the disk brakes. People told me I would not need a double but we use ours a lot and I am so glad I bought one.

  30. We have the Phil and Ted. And I like it a lot, mostly because it an be a single when you need it. Its pretty easy to maneuver, and has lots of attachments that snap on and off. My kids are 8 weeks (girl) and 23 months (boy), so have pretty similar situations. I was worried about my son sitting in the bottom seat too, but he's just fine with it. (But he does LOVE stroller rides in any way, shape, or form.)I just ordered a car seat adapter for it from Amazon and it works perfectly with our Graco (and even accidentally matches!).

I also like that when it's folded in the back of our SUV I still have room for an emergency changing station, with a double wide I think most of the floor space would be gone.

Good luck deciding, choices like this always take me forever too!

  31. My kiddos were 1 year apart, so I had to have something. I got the Chicco side by side double stroller, and whilst I loved the light weight and easy to fold down technique, I hated how wide it was. I mean I never used the stroller going to places like Target or the grocery store, simply because the buggies were easier. I used it for the mall and things of that and I couldn't fit down any of the aisles. It was so annoying. I would recommend either a sit and stand since Manny isn't that small and they are light weight. Or one that is like the first picture. I just think the side by side ones are too wide. This is just my personal experience though. Good luck!

  33. Hi Sarah! You will have to let us know what you do! Here is my 2 cents since I just finally bought a double stroller too. N is 3 months already and it took me that long to decide!!

I ended up buying a Graco double stroller. I was nervous about a side by side since I am primarily going to use it for shopping and outlet malls. I knew the side by side wouldn't either fit into retail store doors or like you said, would need a wide load sign and some assistant from random strangers just to get the darn thing into the stores. My thought is that buy one for what you will primarily use it for, of it's shopping, then maybe you want something longer and not wider. If you think you will use it more for walks/runs, go with the side by side. I have only used our Graco once and it's worked out well.

    Good luck!!!

  34. we just got our double bob and i LOVE it. especially now that hudson is huge and hayes is quickly getting huge. it's perfect and they can both ride in it for a LONG time because the seats are so tall and wide.

we test drove the phil and teds and hudson was NOT happy about having to sit underneath the main seat. and i hated the idea of having hayes so close to the ground, so i thought he'd have to sit in the big main seat.

we still love our baby jogger city select, but hudson quickly grew out of that one, so now we use it as a single if we ever need a single.

just my two... or three cents :)
