Father's Day {2012}

I tend to live by the motto, "Better later than never." And that would be the case for our Father's Day gifts this year! We spent the actual day up at my parent's house and had a great time, and I gave Patrick a card and told him he had gifts to come when we got home. And by "when we got home", I meant plus a month and a few weeks. But who's counting? Bless his heart, he never even brought it up again...probably because he was too scared being polite. Needless to say, I finally got around to giving him his gifts yesterday. For his first Father's Day, I gave him the DAD pictures of Manny, and he said he wanted it every year, so that's a given. I tried to take the kid's pictures once, but it was a major bust, so had been putting it off. Then one day Manny just plopped down next to Maeva while I was taking pictures of her. He started kissing her and being all sweet, so I ran and got the letters. I was not too excited with what Manny was wearing. I had cute coordinating outfits picked out for them for this purpose. But honestly? The Curious George shirt is perfect as that is his UNIFORM these days. These pictures definitely accurately depict our life right now. Silly Manny and Sweet Maeva. :)
I always like to look back, so here is Father's Day 2010. I think Manny & Maeva look a lot alike in these pictures!
And here is Father's Day 2011. He sure has grown this last year. Not so much a baby anymore. :(
I always frame the pictures in a floating frame. In fact, I've bought the same frame at Target the last 3 years. The OCD and hoarder in me makes me want to buy a bunch of these frames in case they stop selling them in the years to come. But I have resisted. If they stop selling them I'll just have to deal with the fact that all the frames won't match. Which is fine, but now? I wish I hadn't matched them to begin with. Clearly I take this way too seriously. Moving right along.
We also got him a pair of monogrammed cuff links. They looked different than I thought they were going to, but Patrick says he likes them so that's all that matters!
Maeva had fun giving daddy his gifts. But Manny? He was busy pouting because I wouldn't let him sit on the picture frame. I'm so mean.

All I Wanted Were Some Pictures

All I wanted were some pictures of Manny and Maeva in their matching SheShe Made shirts. Is that too much to ask? Turns out yes. YES IT IS.
It actually started out okay as Manny had Patrick's phone and was playing a game on it. He would stop every once in awhile to growl, kiss, or scream at Maeva, but other than that? He was happy.
But you know me. I can't leave well enough alone. Because while he was holding the phone, it was blocking the shirt. So what's a girl to do? Take the phone away, of course. Godzilla was less than thrilled with that idea.
You would've thought I was torturing him with the fit that went down. The shrill screaming, the kicking, flailing, convulsing...I'm still waiting for Child Protective Services to show up at my door as I know surely the neighbors thought I'd kidnapped somebody.
He was genuinely devastated, and Maeva was genuinely concerned. Also? He was genuinely dirty. Notice those knees? That would be from him running down the yard, and throwing his body face first on the ground in the Most Dramatic Rose Ceremony Toddler Fit ever
But there's no shame in my game. I started doing a little jig (IN MY FRONT YARD) and it distracted him to the point that he calmed down enough to give me a smile/grimmace.
And because I'm a glutton for punishment he was in such a great mood then, I thought we'd try putting them side by side on the blanket. Of course he wasn't having that. But you know who was?
This sweet girl. :) Better enjoy it while I can because she'll be running from me before I know it.

Confession: I love these pictures more than any perfectly posed pictures I ever could have imagined.

Maeva Beth {2 Months}

Dear Maeva Beth,

I know I'll say this every month, but I simply cannot believe you're already 2 months old! Time is flying by so fast and I just can't wrap my mind around it. Where do the days go?! So what has this last month been like for you?

--At your 2 month check-up on July 17th, you weighed 11 lbs 14 ozs, which is the 75th percentile. You have some serious thigh chub and it's adorable. You rock it much better than I do. You are  23 inches long, which is also the 75th percentile.

--You are doing SO much better with your reflux! I hesitated to type that because I didn't want to jinx anything, but your daddy told me to stop being superstitious. I told him I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. (That is an Office reference - one day I'll teach you all about the greatness of that show. ) But back to your reflux. Zantac seemed to be helping some, but you'd still have problems from time to time. Then one weekend when we were down visiting Aunt Rach & Uncle Matt, we had him adjust you. And since then? You haven't projectiled at all! You still have small spit-ups from time to time, but it's nothing compared to what it was. And overall you seem like a much happier baby! I'm so thankful you are doing so well and hope things stay the way they are.

--You are nursing about every 3 hours during the day. There are times you could go longer, but I try not to let you as I'd rather you save those long stretches for nighttime. :) As far as at night? Well, I'm a firm believer in not talking about sleeping habits, because as soon as you do? It seems to change instantly. But I will say your brother was not as generous in the sleep department as you've been, and I didn't do anything different with him then you. I think it just comes down to your personalities. We still have some rough nights, but that's all part of the journey, right? :) Currently you sleep in your car seat in our room. It's funny that you like it, because your brother HATED it. Again, you guys are such different babies. Since it seems your reflux has settled down, we're hoping to get your crib set up and move you into it soon. Let's hope that goes well!

--You have found your voice and your coo's are THE sweetest thing! You are quite the little cheeser too. Especially for your daddy....it's pretty sweet to watch you two together.

--Your daddy gave you your first bottle on June 25, and I'm so glad you took to it with no problems. We waited too long to introduce bottles to your brother, and that was a nightmare. Thankfully you're a pretty laid back baby and I think that makes a big difference on things like this. I left you for the first time on June 28th so we could go to something for daddy's work. You did great and slept the whole time, but I sure missed you!
--The only new nickname for this month is Sissy Girl. I know it's not anything special, but I definitely call you that a lot, and I don't know why. Your daddy still calls you LP (Little Princess), and Manny still calls you Bebe, and sometimes even Bebe Sawyer. Sawyer is Mimi & Papa's dog, and Manny likes to say his name. So I guess it only makes sense to say yours with it? Who knows...you'll quickly learn your brother is kind of silly.
--You tolerate tummy time, but are not a huge fan. You have rolled over to your back a few times while doing tummy time.
--And here's our monthly comparison. I think you still resemble your brother, but I definitely think you have your own look now too.

Happy 2 Months sweet girl! I love you in a way I never knew I could!!

Love,

Mommy

Wednesday Randoms

--We had the BEST play date Saturday! Ashley and I have been good blog friends for a couple of years now, and we finally got the chance to hang out. I knew we would hit it off, but she really is the sweetest thing ever! Her son Cooper is just a few weeks younger than Manny, and they remind me SO much of each other with their crazy boy ways. :) Ashley and I have a lot in common too, so I was so excited that they were able to come down and visit for the day. She even brought some sweet things for Manny and Maeva, and more importantly - some sweet things for me! These blondies were ridiculously good. They had sugar cookies, white chocolate chips, golden Oreos, and I'm pretty sure little bits of heaven in them. She's quite the baker! We also invited Megan and Katie to come hang out, and the kids had lots of fun. This picture of Katie reading to the kids absolutely cracks me up. She was actually sitting on Manny's little Mickey Mouse couch, and all the kids piled on her while she read. It was such a fun day...thanks so much for coming over girls!

--I continue to have serious issues with my school supply addiction. I got sucked in at Wal-Mart the other night, and at one point a locker mirror even made it's way into my cart. A LOCKER MIRROR. What is wrong with me?! Pretty sure I have zero use for a locker mirror, but my crazy self was trying to find a way to rationalize it. Am I wishing myself back to the 8th grade? Is this the first sign of a mid-life crisis? Needless to say, I didn't actually end up getting it so maybe there's hope for me yet. I did, however, snag all these fun things. And did you know Wal-Mart has an "88 cent spot" now? The one at my store is by the party supplies. It isn't huge, but it's definitely growing. I got the cute sidewalk chalk and the "Love is all you need" metal sign there. I thought it'd be cute in a gallery arrangement in MB's (non-existent) nursery.

--I am happy to report that Manny had another haircut yesterday! This was his 3rd haircut, and was FAR better than the last one (I still shudder when I think of that). He was not excited about it, but it wasn't the kicking-screaming-flailing chaos we experienced last time. He would freak a little when she'd get near his ears, but we managed to keep him contained. He whined for most of it, but I turned on old Donald Duck cartoons (his favorite) on my phone and that helped distract him. I'm glad I finally got the nerve to do this, and hopefully we can start going on a regular basis now and it will become a "non-event" the more we go.

--I mean, really. How is she already old enough to be this smiley and social? Sister has found her voice and it is so sweet. She had her 2 month appointment yesterday and is doing great. Hope to have her 2 month post up within a week.

--And of course we can't forget big brother. He is busier than ever, and always showering MB in kisses. The other day I had just finished feeding her and was burping her, and Manny came over and was helping (naturally) by beating her on the back. Then he started kissing her on the head, which progressed to what you see here...a little game of "Where's Bebe?" Maeva could hardly contain her excitement. Oh these two.

Happy Wednesday friends! :)

DIY Instagram Photo Display

It's no secret I have an addiction to Instagramming my photos. So when I started seeing all of these versions of photo displays popping up everywhere (mostly Pinterest), I knew I needed to make one. My friend Nicole actually sent me a link to one awhile back and I forgot about it, until I saw another one on Erin's blog and decided it was time to act on it. I've been missing crafting in a big way, so this seemed like a simple project that wouldn't take long to ease me back into my craftiness.
Here's what you need:
--large frame
--tiny clothespins (wood section at Hobby Lobby or Michael's)
--twine
--duct tape or staple gun
--pictures!
1. The very first thing I did was order my pictures. I hadn't purchased my frame yet, so I just looked at several examples I'd seen and decided to order 30 prints. I ended up only needing 15 with the frame I got, but now I have some on hand to switch out. Ordering the prints was SO easy. I used the Postal Pix app, which is free and very easy to use. I ordered the 4x4 prints which range from 29 - 33 cents depending on your quantity. You just choose the pictures you want off your phone, upload them, and checkout all through the app. Shipping was around $1.60, and it was fast. I ordered on a Wednesday and they arrived Friday. I absolutely love how simple this was.
2. Next, gather your supplies. I purchased my frame at Hobby Lobby when their open back frames were half off. It still cost $25 because it's a nice heavy duty frame. (You could definitely do this cheaper by going to Goodwill or thrift stores and looking for an old painting or picture to take apart and paint.) The open back frames at Hobby Lobby typically do not have hanging hardware on the back of them. BUT did you know that for only A DOLLAR they will put it on for you? Definitely worth it in my opinion. You can't even buy the hardware for a dollar, not to mention your time to actually put it on. The frame I purchased is 18x24 and works perfectly for the space I wanted to put it. The clothespins also came from Hobby Lobby in their wood section. They are the smallest size they have - tiny. I've seen some versions with the mini clothespins, but I prefer the tiny.
3. You can use your clothespins as is, or spray paint them to match if you wish. The best way to spray paint a bunch of clothespins is to clip them on to a piece of paper (I used the envelope the pictures came in) so you can spray one side, let them dry, then just pick up the paper and spray the other side. Much better than picking up the clothespins one by one and turning them as you paint them.
4. To determine spacing, I did my favorite scientific method I like to refer to as guesstimating. Yep, no measuring and forumulizing (is that a word?) here. I'm far too impatient so I just guess and adjust as needed. I laid my pictures out on the counter with the frame around them, then determined where I wanted the middle row to go. From there, it was easier to determine spacing of the top and bottom rows.
5. Now for the actual hanging display, there are several options. I've seen fishing wire, jewelry wire, picture hanging wire...there are many choices. However, I already had this twine (which came from Hobby Lobby) and I thought it would work fine so that is what I used. I wanted a quick and simple way to string these without pulling out any tools, so originally I used packing tape to stick it to the frame. However, it didn't have the holding power I needed and after a day they started sagging. So, I switched out to duct tape and that has worked great. I think a staple gun would be another good choice, but I was out of staples for mine at the time. But I basically just taped down one side, then pulled it taut to the other side and taped it down there too.

6. Once you have your lines up, just clip on your pictures and you're done! I love the simplicity of this because I am the WORST at changing out pictures in frames. I'm hoping that I will be better at switching these out because it's easy to order the prints through the app, and it will only take seconds to change the pictures out. I wish I knew who the very first person was to think of this because it is a genius idea, so thanks to whoever that is!

Happy crafting! :)

Thursday Tidbits

--Maeva Beth is 2 months old today! Fastest 2 months of my life, hands down. We have mixed emotions about this. On one hand, I love seeing her grow & change, and watching her little personality emerge. On the other hand? I miss my newborn already. :) I will probably take her 2 month pictures next week since I just took her 1 month pictures last week. I want to try to take them as close to her monthly birthday as possible, but will wait a little this month to give her time to change.
--It's no secret I'm obsessed with the Target Dollar Spot. Yesterday I went to Target for some cleaning supplies and managed to come out with all this too. Am I the only one whose heart races at the sight of a freshly stocked Dollar Spot? Not even kidding. It's like a tiny adrenaline rush.
--Speaking of Target, I picked up another tube of my new favorite lip stuff while there. It's by Maybelline and is called Baby Lips. I've been using it for awhile now and love it. It's actually a lip balm and is super moisturizing. I like the Cherry Me kind because it has a little pinkish-red color to it, but isn't too "lipsticky". And it feels great to wear. Win-win!
--Another new favorite thing of mine is the BubbleFrame app. I used it to make the collage of Maeva at the top, and also used it to make this collage of Manners and I yesterday after his nap. I just like how simple it is to create something fun. It doesn't have text function, but I use my PicFrame app to add that. I have so many picture apps it's ridiculous. Speaking of, I am loving Instagram these days. My username is @sarahjanell if you want to follow along. If you Instagram, leave me your username so I can follow you too!

Happy Thursday friends!

July 11, 2012

4th of July 2012

So Fourth of July was a little different this year, but we had a great time! Normally we go up to my parent's at the lake, but with the 4th falling in the middle of the week it kind of threw things off. Luckily my friend Megan's plans changed and they ended up being in town, so we hung out with them and had a great time.
I have very few pictures of me with Manny & Maeva, mostly because I'm always in my pajamas the one taking the pictures. So, it was a must to document the occasion! They looked beyond precious in their matching SheShe Made outfits too. I want them to match all the time now...this could be a problem.
Tuesday night we met Megan, Luke, and Eli in Bricktown and we went to eat at Abuelo's - my fave! (PS - Can we talk about how badly Manny needs a haircut?! And no, I don't mean a chop job by daddy while mommy holds him down screaming. I've got to get the courage to take him back to a barber/hairdresser. I think this week might be the week. Wish me luck.)
After dinner, we walked around Bricktown for a little bit and went and had some gelato. Manny enjoyed acting like a big shot pushing Eli around, and Eli loved it (he's got a strong poker face).
After that we headed out to watch some fireworks. We ended up being SO close to them and had no clue...kind of scared us all when they shot the first one off. Manny wasn't sure at first, but then he got on board and started yelling "Boom!" while he watched. It was late so we didn't stay long, but it was fun and the fireworks were so pretty.
On Wednesday, we were going to go to a parade but Patrick ended up having to work that morning and I was too tired from the late night before to try to get 2 kids there myself. We just hung out most of the day, and then headed out later that afternoon. Of course this called for another photo op. Easier said then done though, right? We have about a dozen pictures like this. Getting just one can be a challenge, so I told Patrick to just keep clicking and maybe we'd get a winner in there somewhere.
Sweet victory! We're all looking, and nobody's laying on the floor. Manny is such a goof. And could you D-I-E for their matching SheShe Made outfits?! These are my favorite ever. Love love love them!!
Later that night we went to Megan & Luke's to watch the Super Bowl. Yes, I said Super Bowl. I can't remember if I ever mentioned it, but thanks to me and a failed DVR recording...Patrick never got to watch the Super Bowl. Luckily he was nice about it, but he's always wanted to see it. And then the first time he met Luke, somehow the Super Bowl came up. As luck would have it, Luke just so happens to have it recorded. So we'd been talking for awhile about getting together to watch it, and the 4th just seemed like the perfect time for it. We ate pizza and Megan made an awesome Butterfinger Pie. I also made my favorite go- to Symphony Brownies...just can't ever get enough of those.

So it ended up being a great holiday, and I'm so thankful for all of the men, women, and their families who have served our country so we can do silly things like we did for the 4th. It's easy to take for granted, but we really are blessed!
