Girl's Weekend Invitations

My college roommate and sweet friend April has a birthday coming up, and her husband wanted to plan something special for her to celebrate. So (with the help of her sister), he planned a girl's weekend for April and a few of her friends. Isn't that so thoughtful?! Of course I couldn't wait to put together an invitation for it, and decided to do something a little different since I only needed to send a handful of invitations.
I had thought about doing a box invitation (like this) but wasn't completely sold on the idea. As luck would have it, I came across these burlap "pencil pouches" at the Target dollar spot, and decided they would be perfect for a girl's weekend theme. I personalized them by stenciling each girl's initial on the bag with craft paint.  For the invitation, I designed a little booklet and used my flourish punch to cut them out.
There were 4 pages containing all the details of what the weekend will entail, and I bound them together with a little rhinestone brad I had left over from these invitations. I think those brads can be purchased from Hobby Lobby or Michael's.
I picked up some of the e.l.f. pocket mirrors at Target for $1/each, and designed a label with each girl's monogram to go on the top. I also put a tube of my favorite e.l.f. lip gloss, also $1, in the bag.

I lined the bag with some fun tissue paper to finish out the inside and tie in the color theme.
And finally, I shipped them in these padded envelopes (also from Target) that perfectly matched the colors I was using.

I can't wait to celebrate you Apy!! :)

Maeva Beth in Matilda Jane

If you've been reading for a little while, you might remember back when I was so excited that Lauren sent Maeva her first Matilda Jane outfit. As I was switching out her closet the other day, I realized she could now fit into it! Of course this called for a little photo shoot. I can't handle this cuteness. Which means picture overload of my little princess. Sorry not sorry. Thanks again Lauren for the precious outfit! :)

Friday Fragments

--It was past time to get Manny a new pair of shoes, so I checked them out while we were at Target the other day. Much to my delight, I saw these cute retro looking sneakers that I thought were perfect. Manny, on the other hand, flipped.his.lid. when I took his shoes off to try these on him. Like bloody-murder-she's-slicing-me-with-razors screams. I managed to wrestle him down to get one on long enough to see that it fit right, and decided to take a chance and get them. After we left Target, we went through the drive-thru at Chick-fil-a to pick up dinner before church. While waiting in line, I suddenly see something go whizzing by my head and land in the front seat. I look down and it was one of Manny's shoes. I asked what he was doing, and he started screaming bloody murder (much like he'd just done in Target) wanting his shoes on. I told him he shouldn't have taken them off and thrown them, and turned around to give him his shoe when he starts saying, "No mama, other shoe. I want it! I want it! I want it! Shoooosh on I want it. Mama. Shoooosh on. I want it." I finally realized he was possibly asking for his new shoes, so I pulled them out of the bag and said, "These?" to which he wildy applauded and said, "Yay!! You did it!!" So yes. It actually was quite the accomplishment figuring out what he wanted as it's anybody's guess these days, and I'm not gonna lie...it was nice to be recognized with a little applause from the peanut gallery. Am I the only one with a bipolar toddler? Needless to say, he loves them now and talks about them all the time. For today anyway. :)
--Have you upgraded to the new iOS on your iPhone yet? I did but haven't had much of a chance to explore the changes. I did see the camera takes panoramic shots now, which is SUPER cool! (I've been told it only works with the 4s or 5 though.) We're in the process of changing Manny's room, so this isn't really decorated right now how it will be...but I just wanted to show what the camera can do. I think it will be so fun to have. I also LOVE the new Maps app! It talks to you and is amazing. So much better than the old version. Oh and the new emoticons!! There are some fun additions. Do you know of any new changes or fun things in iOS 6? If so, please share!

--Thanks for all of the entries in the bag giveaway! You guys are awesome and I loved hearing where everyone is from. And it was neat to see that some of you are local...we really need to have a blogger get together! On to the winners...

Project 366: Week 36

It Started with a Picture

Before I go to bed each night, I have the habit of going in to check on Manny. Not so much out of concern that something's wrong, but rather just to take a look at his sweet sleeping face and to cover him with a blanket if he seems cold. So last night I went in, just like any other night, and upon shining my cell phone on him, noticed he was wearing his fedora. I laughed to myself while taking a picture and just thought, "this kid is too much." Patrick had put him to bed while I was putting Maeva down, so I'm assuming Manny must've convinced him to let him wear it to bed. Sure, it's not the first time, and I highly doubt it will be the last. But for some reason, something about this cute little boy laying in his crib in his fedora struck me.

As I looked down at him, it hit me like a ton of bricks and I just started sobbing. This was my son. My baby I was never supposed to have, sleeping peacefully in his crib (in a fedora) at almost 2.5 years old. If you told me I'd be where I am 3.5 years ago? I never would've believed you. And the thing is - I never want to forget that place I came from. Sure, I want to let go of the hurt and disappointment that came with that season. But the Lord delivered us from that brokenness and has built us a beautiful family. I always want the feeling of seeing the Lord work in our lives to remain fresh in my heart. And I never want to forget the miracle that Manny is, or take for granted that he made me a momma. And Maeva too. When you get busy with life and mothering, it's easy to forget those dark days where you wondered if you ever even would be called mommy. And while it's a distant memory now, it still holds a special place in my heart that, at times I least expect, is brought to the forefront. It's then that I'm reminded that part of my story, is sharing my story. Because if it gives hope or encourages just one person, that's all that matters.

I know this is a pretty emo post, but for some reason, I just felt like sharing my heart today. And encouraging those of you that are still waiting for your miracle - keep believing..."For nothing is impossible with God." If you are in a season of waiting, I would love to be praying for you. You can leave me a comment, or if you feel more comfortable, you can send me an email. (my address is on the contact page.)
Though we don't always know or understand His plans, I do know that if you seek Him, He will carry you through it all. And I couldn't be more thankful for the place He has carried me to. :)

Monogram Cosmetic & Travel Bags - {Limited Sale}

So you guys know I love personalized items. Slap a name or monogram on something and sign me up for a dozen! Because I'll want it. Needless to say, I recently found a vendor where I could design my own cosmetic bags, and I decided to order one for Manny, Maeva, and me. And I absolutely love them!
They are a great size (8x10), and also have a small inside zipper pocket. They can easily be wiped clean, though we haven't had the need to yet. When we travel, I use Maeva's to carry all of her bows in, and I put Manny's toothbrush, lotion, and bath stuff in his. I also throw in other stuff like medicine that we might end up needing. They really hold quite a bit. I use mine for my jewelry typically, but sometimes will put my glasses, contact solution, etc. in it too. I'm going to order them a 2nd set for the diaper bag also because they are just handy to have.

So I say all that to say this: I'm going to be selling these bags for a limited time only! I think they are incredibly useful, and also would make great bridesmaid, Christmas or teacher gifts. I have come up with 6 basic designs for you to choose from. I tried to make good options for boys or girls, young or old. :) I also included an example of it with a name or a mono so you could see the way it would look with either. (If you don't see anything you like, email me for custom design pricing.)

(Please note: colors may slightly vary as computer monitor coloring is not consistent.)
Here are the details if you'd like to order:
  • I will be accepting orders until Wednesday, September 26th at 10pm CST.
  • THIS PART IS IMPORTANT: They will take approximately 4-6 weeks to arrive. I know that is a long wait time, but to keep my price point low unfortunately the turnaround time is a little longer. They will still be here in plenty of time for Christmas!
  •  Cost is as follows, and it DOES include shipping:
    • 1 Bag - $18
    • 2 Bags - $34 ($17/each)
    • 3 Bags - $48 ($16/each)
    • 4 Bags - $62 ($15.50/each)
    • 5 Bags - $75 ($15/each)
    • If you're interested in a larger quantity, please contact me for a quote! It does get cheaper the more you order.
If you would like to order, please do the following:
  1. Email me at sweetlc at yahoo.com (It will be easier for me to keep track of orders in emails than comments, tweets, IG comments, etc.) with the title "Bag Order".
  2. Include your Name, Shipping Address, and PayPal email address so I can invoice you.
  3. List the design # of the bag you would like to order.
  4. List the name or monogram you would like on it. Please enter the monogram EXACTLY as you want it to appear. Since the initial of the last name is in the center, Mary Jane Doe would be entered mDj. Names in the plain font will be all lowercase unless you request otherwise.
  5. Font - If you are selecting a monogram, specify whether you want a circle monogram (like the navy and green chevron) or a script monogram (like the rainbow chevron). If you are selecting a name, specify if you want the name in plain or script font.
Please note: There will NOT be a proof provided before I place your order, so it is your responsibility to confirm all spellings and monograms submitted are correct and entered per the instructions. If you do not specify a font, the one shown in the example will automatically be used.

Here are some additional specifics on the bags:

  • Full color double sided printing
  • Made from durable 600d polyester fabric
  • Black interior lining
  • Zippered closure for easy access
  • Zippered hidden interior compartment
  • Approx. Dimensions: 10" width x 8" height

Okay, I hope I covered everything and it's not too confusing! Please comment or email sweetlc at yahoo.com with questions. Happy shopping! :)

*Due to the fact that this is a personalized product, no refunds or exchanges will be allowed. All sales are final.

The Proof is in the Pin {Volume 1}

Good morning, and welcome to the first edition of The Proof is in the Pin! (Why do I sound like a game show host?) If you're not sure what this is all about, you can read more here. So my 3 pins for this month are nothing too crazy complicated, but - I completed/attempted them, and well, at times that in and of itself is complicated. I want to reiterate that you can share successes or flops, big or small, and really the only basic rule is you must have at least tried it (or read it if it's an article - you catch the drift). Oh, and link back to the original source because, well, that's just good manners. So now that we have that out of the way, let's get started!
Pin #1 - Monogram Printable iPhone Charger Wraps: I saw this on Pinterest one night and KNEW it was a must for me to make! Patrick is for.ev.errrr stealing my phone charger and claiming it as his. No longer my friends! For Chic Sake has a free download that you can customize with your monogram, and then it prints a full sheet of a variety of adorable designs. So now I can label some other stuff with them! Not sure what, but you know I'll find something to use it on. You can find their tutorial and printable here. One note: their tutorial says to print it on a label sheet but I didn't have any on hand. So I just printed it on regular copy paper, and used packing tape to wrap it around the charger, using a similar method as my water bottle label technique. This was a super easy and quick project. Definitely pleased with this pin!! :)

Pin #2 - Oversize Picture for Cheap: This pin lead to a tutorial that shared a great tip. I never knew you could have places like Office Depot print oversize prints for really cheap. You just request to have it printed as an Engineer's Print, which only can be done in black in white, but there's still plenty of cool things you can do with it. I believe the largest size is 36x48, but I did mine as a 24x36 and it cost $2.86 to have it printed. The tutorial shows how to mount it on foam that you buy at Home Depot or Lowe's. However, I went to buy it and it's HUGE and wouldn't fit in my car, and I didn't see a realistic way for me to get it without losing one of my kids in the process. So I ended up just picking up a poster frame from Wal-Mart and it works great. Not as cheap, but I think will be better in the long run for the person I made this for. (By the way, act surprised when I give it to you please - I think you know who you are!) You can find the full tutorial on how to mount it on foam here.

Pin #3 - Marriage Certificate Monogram: So I've seen this floating around for a little while. The caption says "Mod podge a copy of your marriage certificate on a wooden initial." I loved the idea, so it was one of those "quick pins" I did and just moved on. I thought this would be a fast and easy project so I picked up a wooden initial at Hobby Lobby the other day. When I came home, I pulled up the pin to read the tutorial, and I was less than thrilled to see it was a dead-end pin. All it did was take me to a picture of it - no tutorial. And upon closer inspection of the picture? If you look at the bottom right of the A, that appears to be a price tag. So I'm going to guess this was actually mass produced and for sale somewhere, and wasn't really the result of someone mod-podging their marriage certificate to a letter, but rather an idea to knock it off I suppose. It's the danger of Pinterest, and happens more times than I'd like. I know this is still totally doable, so thought maybe I would give it a shot myself. However, when I pulled my marriage certificate out? It's actually really plain with no decorative flair to it so it really wouldn't look that cool used for something like this. So yeah. Definitely could've been worse (reference: muffin pan cookie bowls) but it still didn't help me achieve a completed pin. I'll file this away for a "maybe someday" project as I have an idea of a direction I could take it. We'll see if that ever materializes though.

So that wraps it up for the first edition of The Proof is in the Pin! I hope you'll join me in this challenge to be a more productive pinner. If you shared any Pinterest projects you've done lately, please grab the button and link up below. Happy Tuesday! :)
