Hooray! It's a Confetti Bash - Part 1

Last month we had a joint birthday bash for Manny & Maeva. The party was great and it was a fun theme to work with, once I finally settled on it. :) As I mentioned here, I decided to go with a "Bebe Sawyer" theme and used the silhouette of the American Bulldog in honor of Sawyer, my parents' dog that Manny loves. It made sense since he also nicknamed Maeva "Bebe Sawyer" shortly after we brought her home from the hospital. And since I love all things confetti, I thought - why not throw that (no pun intended) in the mix? Actually I can thank my best friend Candice for that idea. She is the ultimate event planner and helped me with so many ideas for this party...so thanks Candy-pants! :)

Since of course I took a gazillion pictures, I'll break this up into 2 parts, and will start by sharing some of the party details.

I decided to incorporate the word "Hooray" into the party because Manny always shouts "Hooray!" when he gets excited about something. I wanted something different for the backdrop, and after much brainstorming with Candice, finally came up with a realistic idea. I was able to make this backdrop for about $15 in about an hour. I was so pleased with how it turned out and will post a tutorial on it soon. I also hung a little glitter confetti banner from Target along the top.

For Maeva's smash cake, I just made a mini cake and covered it in Cool Whip and some confetti sprinkles. I made a little cake stand with a wood plaque from Hobby Lobby and a candlestick that my mom painted with glue and food coloring awhile back. She saw that idea on Pinterest and I love the translucent look it gives versus just painting it solid.

Candice found this topper inspiration, and we decided to recreate a version ourselves. I cut the banner out with my Cricut, and we taped the streamers to the back of it and then taped it to some paper straws before putting it on the cake.

For Manny, I just did a little cupcake with 3 candles, and he loved his "special" cupcake.

I used my same water bottle label template for these, but I just punched out the center part. I put them on packing tape, and sprinkled confetti on the tape before wrapping them on the bottle. (The shredded confetti came from Hobby Lobby.)

I used my Cricut to cut their birthday crowns out of glitter cardstock from Hobby Lobby. Then I made a ghetto pinwheel to go on the front, and taped one of the party circles on it to finish it off. And by finish it off, I mean cover up the ghetto pinwheel. This was super last minute (read: the morning of) so I didn't have time to fuss with the pinwheel so just called it good. And most people probably never would've notice how uneven it was if I just hadn't spent a paragraph drawing your attention to it.

I made a couple of banners to line the porch awning, and alternated between some flags I designed and printed, and some sheets of confetti I laminated. Yes, I have a laminator. No judgies. (I bought it with my Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon, so that justifies anything, right? Plus I told Patrick it would pay for itself with all of the things I could laminate around the house for him. He could hardly contain his enthusiasm.)

Since Miss Priss wasn't walking yet and hates the grass, I made a little drop cloth blanket for her to hang out on, and it also worked well for places for other kids to sit and eat too. I used this Confetti Drop Cloth Blanket Tutorial and it was SO easy. I made 2 of them and they are nice to have for when we go outside or to the park since the back has a waterproof lining thing on it. Speaking of Miss Priss, could she be any cuter in her SheShe Made bubble?! More pics to come of this unbearable cuteness. Brace yourselves.

My sweet neighbor makes amazing cookies, and she made these adorable ones for the party! She did so many cute designs and they were so stinking good.
SAM'S is always my go-to for cupcakes. You get 30 cupcakes for like $14, and they are really good.
I made some cupcake toppers as usual, and also added some flair inspired by some toppers I saw at Target. I stuck some glittery pom poms (I happened to have on hand - hoarder much?) on toothpicks, then wrapped a little washi tape flag underneath it.

I displayed the cupcakes on a white cupcake stand I made just like this one I shared the tutorial for. The only difference is I used a larger top in order to hold more cupcakes.
We had LOTS of sweets. I always go overboard on sweets - oops. I made chocate dipped oreos and pretzel rods with confetti sprinkles. I also bought some sugar cookies from Eileen's. Hands down THE best sugar cookie, EVER. If you have access to Eileen's, these are a must. A dozen for only $6 and they are seriously little drops of heaven in your mouth.

I added in some fruit skewers (perfectly made by my dad and sister - thanks guys!) to try to balance out all the sweets. Though I did serve it with some fruit dip, recipe compliments of Ashley - cream cheese mixed with a jar of marshmallow cream and a couple of drops of pink food coloring. Pretty sure it negates any health benefits of eating fruit, but holy cow it's amazing. We also served BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs that my sweet momma fixed up, as well as Patrick's famous queso.

Even though I was combining the kid'../../2011/05/mannys-1st-birthday-party-part-1.html" target="_blank">Manny's 1st Birthday, so I also did one just for Maeva too. I ordered the 12x12 size from Shutterfly and just left some blank white space on a few pages so guests could have a place to write a note.

I didn't get any pictures of the drink table, but I did happen to snap this random picture of straws. Which were actually left over from Manny's 1st birthday party. I think I'm slowly becoming more aware of my hoarding issues.

And finally, I displayed some of MB's monthly pictures using little glitter jar photo holders. I got the idea from this post from eighteen25. They filled theirs with paint, but I decided to do glitter instead and used the same method to make them as I did my glitter ornaments here.

I think that wraps it up for the decor and details! Be back soon with what you really want to see...all the pictures of my cute kiddos. ;)

I've been trying to find a wooden one with no luck!
