Teacher's Favorite Things Template & Printable Update

I can't believe it'../../2011/08/teacher-favorites-free-printable.html" target="_blank">first posted this free printable. Thanks to Pinterest, it has been downloaded over 7,000 times since then - and that doesn't even count all the sites that are sharing it as their own and not directing people here to download it. Oh wait - did that sound bitter? I hate when my passive-aggressive comments come out wrong. ;)  All joking aside, I don't mind sharing...I'll just never understand why people don't give credit, though I suppose some people really don't know any better, and let's face it - it's gonna happen when you put your stuff on the internetz for free and don't watermark it. But I digress.

Around this time of year, I get quite a few emails asking for me to customize it. As much as I would love to do that for everyone, there just isn't enough time in the day. So, I did something I should've done a long time ago, and finally dropped it into Word (I originally designed it in Photoshop) and made a version that you can edit yourself! I saved it as a really old version of Word, so hopefully it will work for anyone who wishes to edit it. You can download the Word template for the favorite things list here. (Update: I know several of you had problems with this. I believe I have emailed it to anyone that requested it, but please let me know if I missed you. Also - the link is fixed as of August 2015 so hopefully will be working for you all now!)

I also updated the version I'll be giving Manny's teachers this year. So if you're interested in just using a pre-made one, you're welcome to download that version (which is the same as the example you see above) here.

Happy Back to School time!! :)

  1. Thank you, thank you! My daughter starts kindergarten this year, and I can't wait to send her off with this! How fun! I taught for 7 years and probably would've cried if one of my students gave me something like this;)

  2. We sent this to Aubrey's teachers last year and it was a big hit! It was incredibly helpful to be able to reference it all throughout the year. We'll definitely be doing it again! :) Thanks for posting!

  5. you know i love this! i have used it since you've first posted it. and as "room mom" (ha!) i always send out copies to all the parents, too. hopefully it helps the teachers from getting 10 little coffee mugs and vanilla scented candles (unless that's something that they like!) ;)

  7. Sarah, I love this! I have sent it in to our preschool teachers the last two years. The PTA actually now gives it to all of the teachers in the school, now! I enjoy following your precious family. I am still blogging but hardly find the time for my personal blog (www.one39fourteen). I am going back to the classroom this year at my sons' preschool! Thank you again!

  13. Sweet Sarah - Thank you for sharing (again!) your creativity! I've been meaning to ask you for awhile now... what is the trick to making larger printables without the font getting pixelated? (Is that a word?) I've made a couple in PS Elements, and when I try to print, the fonts almost always look like they are way blown up... what am I doing wrong?!

  14. You are so sweet - thanks friend!! :)

I'm not familiar with PS Elements, BUT I'd be willing to bet it's pretty similar as far as set up goes. Two things I'd make sure of:
    1. Create your original image/canvas size the size you want to print the page. So for this design, my canvas was 8.5x11.

    2. This is what my guess would be most likely be causing it - make sure your image size is set to at least 300 pixels. (300 is what I used for this, and should be sufficient for most print work.)
Check those things and let me know if it doesn't work, and I'll think of some other things that might be causing it.
    Good luck! :)

  15. Thanks so much! I think it is probably the pixels - it looks like it defaulted to 72ppi. I'll try to re-size and see if that fixes it. Thanks friend! :)

  16. Love this! I used this last year and I'm planning to use your updated version this year. When I try to download it, it says the user is out of bandwidth...???

  17. Thanks so much! Apparently I ran out of bandwidth on the site I was hosting it, so try downloading it here: http://www.4shared.com/office/as5c_tRg/favorite_things_template.html
I will also email you a version. Sorry for the trouble!

  18. Hi! Thanks so much for sharing! I've tried to download the Word version several times, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but McAfee keeps blocking the download! Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

  19. Hi Sarah! I found this printable through a blog friend and I just wanted to thank you for sharing it with us. My wee one starts preschool next week and I'm so excited to be able to use your "cheat sheet" to get to know his new teachers a little better! Thanks again!!!

  20. Hi Katie! If McAfee is blocking the download, I would guess it has to do with a setting on your computer? So sorry you're having problems with it. I just emailed it to you as well. Hope that helps! :)

  21. I am having trouble downloading the word doc version. I have triplets starting PreK3 this year and would love to use this document for their teacher. I will need to edit a few things though. I am a teacher myself (at the same school). I would like to start this as a tradition that we do every year with their teachers. Any chance you can email me the editable version? Thanks. School starts in 2 weeks for us....Help!
